Say so long to winter and welcome spring! We are back to longer days once April hits and it is such a fantastic time to travel. In many northen destinations the weather finally begins to warm up so if you are wondering about the best places to visit in April, use this list to guide your next vacation!

As mentioned, while weather during April varies depending on the location, you can generally expect warmer temperatures, making it an excellent time for outdoor activities, weekend getaways, and sightseeing.
But there is one negative to watch out for – and that is budget! April coincides with several significant events, including Passover and Spring Break, which means many Americans travel during this time. That increases flight and hotel demand, as well as crowds, so you’ll want to plan ahead and choose more off-the-beaten-path destinations. (Cough, cough – avoid all-inclusive resorts and amusement parks.)
If budget and last-minute timing is a concern, try May travel instead. Otherwise – read on! From tropical beaches, cultural cities, and scenic outdoor landscapes, here are my recommendations for the best places to visit in April.
Best Places to Visit in the USA during April
Washington, DC
Washington, DC is lovely in April with mild temperatures and plenty of sunshine. The city is renowned for its cherry blossom trees that line the Tidal Basin, creating a picturesque scene that attracts many travelers.
Cherry blossom season typically begins in late March and lasts through April, with the peak bloom usually occurring in mid to late April. The National Cherry Blossom Festival, which features parades, live music, and cultural performances, happens this month.
Aside from this, Washington DC has plenty of other attractions to offer visitors in April. The city is home to numerous free museums, art galleries, and historical landmarks, making it an excellent destination for all of you history buffs and culture enthusiasts. Take a nighttime tour of some of the most popular monuments to make sure you don’t miss a thing (check my DC city guide)!

New Orleans, LA
New Orleans, Louisiana, is another destination that comes to life in April with its famous music festivals and lively atmosphere.
One of the biggest events in the city during this time is the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, also known as Jazz Fest. This annual music festival takes place over two weekends and features a diverse lineup of musicians from various genres, including jazz, blues, R&B, and rock.
You also have the French Quarter Festival, which is a free music festival that takes place in the historic French Quarter. The festival features over 20 stages and showcases the best of New Orleans music, food, and culture.
If you are a foodie like myself, don’t miss out on New Orleans’ famous cuisine, including gumbo, jambalaya, and beignets while enjoying the city’s vibrant nightlife. Take a food tour in the French Quarter and try some classic NOLA flavors.
Boston, MA
While Boston is known for having a long and cold winter, the city comes back to life in April as the weather warms up, and spring takes hold. When I was in college in Boston I loved watching the cherry blossoms sprout along our brownstone-lined street.
Like in Washington, DC one of the most popular attractions during this time is the cherry blossoms that bloom on Newbury Street or Bay Street. Take a stroll in these areas and take in the colorful blossoms while enjoying the fresh spring air.
Aside from the cherry blossoms, there are plenty of other attractions to explore in Boston during April. One of the most popular activities is to take a walk along the Freedom Trail, a 2.5-mile trail that takes visitors through some of the city’s most historic sites, including the Massachusetts State House, the Old North Church, and the USS Constitution Museum.

Grand Canyon, AZ
The Grand Canyon is a truly awe-inspiring destination that should be on everyone’s bucket list. Whether you’re a nature lover, a history buff, or just looking for a great adventure, the Grand Canyon is sure to leave you with memories that will last a lifetime.
The park is home to a variety of animals, from mountain lions and coyotes to elk and bighorn sheep. Numerous bird species call the canyon home, including bald eagles, peregrine falcons, and California condors. The Grand Canyon is one of the few places in the world where you can still see California condors in the wild.
There are so many ways to explore the Grand Canyon, but hiking is one of the best. You can take a walk on one of the many trails, from an easy stroll to a challenging hike that will get your heart pumping.
Some of the most popular ones are the Bright Angel Trail, South Kaibab Trail, and Rim Trail. If hiking isn’t for you, try a helicopter tour and take in the sights from above.
Naples, Florida
Florida is a popular state to visit for much of the year, but this time try visiting it during a time when families and students are flocking to very specific destinations. Skip Orlando and Miami and instead head to the beautiful city of Naples.
I loved my time in Naples, and the food options are exquisite. Head to the Naples Pier for a peaceful day at the beach, visit the Naples Botanical Garden, and make a day trip to nearby Marco Island for a boat tour, kayaking, or dolphin watching.

Napa Valley, CA
With the vines coming back to life after a dormant winter, April is a beautiful time to explore the region and indulge in some of the world’s best wines. From wine and food pairings to barrel tastings, there are endless opportunities to enjoy the regions wine selection. Take a guided tour of the vineyards and learn about the wine-making process firsthand.
Aside from wine tasting, there are plenty of other things to do in Napa Valley. You can take a hot air balloon ride over the vineyards and enjoy breathtaking views, or explore the charming towns and villages that dot the region.

Asheville, North Carolina
If you’re looking for a unique and beautiful experience in April, look no further than Asheville, North Carolina. This charming city is home to the Asheville Orchid Festival, a celebration of one of the world’s most beautiful plants.
The Asheville Orchid Festival is a must-visit event for anyone with an interest in horticulture or just a love of natural beauty. The festival features hundreds of orchids on display, from exotic hybrids to rare species. You can also attend lectures and workshops on orchid care, propagation, and conservation.
While in Asheville, take a scenic drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway, explore the many art galleries and studios in the River Arts District, or go on a craft brewery tour.
Best Countries to Visit during April
Japan
In April, the cherry blossom trees in Kyoto, Japan come to life, painting the city in shades of pink and white. This is a magical time to visit Japan, as locals and tourists alike flock to the parks to picnic, take photos, and enjoy the fleeting beauty of the blossoms.
You can also experience traditional Japanese culture, from tea ceremonies to kimono fittings, and explore the city’s temples and shrines.

Ecuador (Galapagos)
For nature lovers, the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador are a must-visit destination. April in the Galapagos brings pleasant weather and plenty of wildlife to see.
You can take a tour around the islands and see the famous giant tortoises, blue-footed boobies, and marine iguanas, or go snorkeling to see schools of colorful fish, sea turtles, and even sharks. The Galapagos Islands are a truly unique destination, and a visit here is sure to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Spain
There are so many beautiful places to visit in Spain, and Barcelona is one of my favorite. But if you want warmer weather you’ll want to visit as south as possible!
Seville in Andalusia and Granada are two fantastic options for a sunny Spain getaway. More north, this could be a good time to trek the Camino de Santiago. There are many different lengths depending on how many days you have to spare – just make sure you train beforehand for this extensive walking pilgrimage and pack a poncho.
