Spa hotels, wellness retreats, resorts… your next getaway doesn’t have to come at the expense of your self-care. In fact, it can support it. I’ve spent the last 10+ years enjoying wellness vacations around the world to help soothe stress, tension, and burnout; wellness retreats have been essential to that effort.

If you don’t know where to begin or feel overwhelmed at the potentially high cost of a wellness retreat, this guide is here to help you! You don’t have to leave the country to enjoy a wellness retreat, either. And you don’t have to book a $1,500/night experience.
After doing a bit of research, here are fantastic affordable wellness retreats you can enjoy right here in the United States – without going over budget.
Why you need a wellness retreat
For the sake of long-term health and livelihood, it is no question that women should be prioritizing their health. Research shows that workload and job stressors strain individual well-being and, according to the CDC, about 16% of women over the age of 18 are in poor health.
Workplace stress is a slow and silent deterrent to health and productivity too. In the United States, about 40% of people say they feel stressed at work. These stressors can have both physical and psychological impacts, with people feeling anxious or getting sick.
Things to Know About Wellness Retreats
What is a wellness retreat?
Wellness retreats help promote health and well-being through physical, spiritual, or psychological activities. Unlike with ordinary vacations which just take time off from your daily routine, wellness retreats offer an intentional space to focus on your mental health and physical wellness.
Many retreats have trained professionals who help you with healing therapy, counseling, yoga, meditation, exercise, and more. There are many different types of wellness retreats and activities that you can partake in, depending on what you want to get out of it.

How to Choose the Right Retreat
To decide what type of retreat you’d like to embark on, ask yourself these questions. What type of traveler are you? Do you prefer activities such as hiking or biking? Or are you looking to do yoga and meditation?
There are so many kinds of wellness retreats to choose from. You can enjoy meditation, yoga, digital detoxes, and time at the spa. It all depends on what you want from your experience.

How to find a wellness retreat near you
To start, consider how long of a retreat you can go on. There are endless options: 4-7 days would be perfect if it’s your first retreat. Many retreats offer month-long options if you are more seasoned or looking to disconnect for longer.
In addition to this, figure out how much you can budget for this trip. You can save some money by going on a retreat that is just a drive away or you can go for a shorter duration. Also, you can go on a wellness retreat in place of the vacation that you’d normally take during the year.

While searching for a wellness retreat near you, decide where you want to immerse yourself. Are you someone who likes the ocean? Then maybe look at going to Florida or California. Do you enjoy a walk in the forest or mountains? Then somewhere in the Pacific Northwest could be a great fit. Think about what environment brings you the most peace and happiness.Â

How much do wellness retreats cost?
There are a lot of different factors that affect how much a wellness retreat can cost. Will you take classes? What extra amenities are you interested in? Do you want all your meals covered?
For a budget retreat, you’d be looking at around $1,000 to $2,000 for a week-long getaway. If you are looking at mid-range retreats, you can expect upwards of $3,000 to $6,000, and for the more luxurious experiences, it can be over $7,000. For the sake of this article, “affordable” will include budget to mid-range experiences that cost under $700 per night.
