I started traveling internationally much later in life due to health and economic circumstances. At 27 years old, I set off for the world having only visited about five countries in my life (which I recognize is still a blessing.)

Though I initially felt like I started traveling “late”, compared to the backpackers I met, I soon learned we all grow at our own pace and that my preferred style of travel was based on a slow travel journey, prioritizing health and meaningful travel experiences.

We’re not all 22-year-olds obsessed with travel after a transformative study abroad experience in college, and that’s okay. You can begin traveling at any age, and if you’re wondering where to start, you might love this bucket list of travel suggestions to take at your own pace.
