I am spa-obsessed and no matter where I travel, I am always on the lookout for spas, body treatment and skincare specials, and a reason to treat myself to a little TLC. That’s why I am excited to share this list of US Black-owned spas you should try for your next self-care getaway or wellness session.
Read on to learn how you can grant yourself relaxation bliss while supporting Black-owned businesses in your area.
Below, you’ll find a list of 20 great spas across the US. Head to one of these Black-owned spas near you or use as an inspiration point to book your next vacation in the respective area.

1. Alabama: Healing Waters Wellness Center & Spa
Support your body from the inside out at Healing Waters: a Black-owned spa in Southtown, Birmingham, Alabama. The specialists at Healing Waters use proven methods to detox and renew your system.
While they don’t provide massage services, you can choose from detoxing treatments like cleansing baths, red light sauna therapy, and colonic hydrotherapy to enhance your personal health goals.

2. Arizona: The Jenesis House
There are a few Black-owned spas in Arizona, but The Jenesis House will be the only Black woman-owned resort and spa in the state, so we’re excited to share more information about it!
This digital-free, adult-only resort in Prescott is inspired by Asian and African cultures and offers the opportunity to stay in 1 of 13 individual studios.

3. California: Touch of London Spa
With her nursing experience and Ph.D. in psychology, world traveler Violet Johnson opened Touch of London Spa in downtown San Jose, California.
Believing in the mind-body connection, the spa offers a series of amazing skin and body treatments, as well as hair removal. If you’re looking for Black-owned spas in California, check them out.

4. Delaware: Edwards’ Wellness & Skin Care
If you are searching for Black-owned spas in Delaware, make an appointment at Edwards’ Wellness & Skin Care Facility.
Thelma Carole Edwards provides the community of Wilmington, Delaware with her extensive expertise in skin treatments and bodywork. Edwards is available by appointment only in Carrcroft.

5. Florida: Luxury Lotus Spa
Certified esthetician Esther Nelson, the heart behind Luxury Lotus Spa in Tampa, Florida, understands skin troubles.

6. Georgia: iwi fresh
A unique entry on this list of Black-owned spas, head to iwi fresh, a skincare spa and wellness center in Atlanta, Georgia’s hip Castleberry Hills neighborhood.
Farmer and founder, Yolanda Owens, believes in the power of raw, plant-based skincare. Buy her line at iwi fresh or book a variety of services that use her products.
Iwi fresh is closed on Mondays to run the farm. They open at 10 AM every other day of the week but close as early as 5 PM on some days.

7. Illinois: Veola’s Day Spa and Wellness Center
Veola’s Day Spa is in the Beverly Hills neighborhood of Chicago. When it comes to Black-owned spas in Chicago, Veola’s is a full-service spa covering two floors. Book facials, body treatments, hair care, nail care, and more.

While you’re in Chicago, stay at the Viceroy Chicago. Though 30 minutes from the spa, it is conveniently located within minutes of all of downtown Chicago’s biggest attractions — which is ideal for visitors. You can taxi or take public transit to Veola’s.
8. Louisiana: My Spa, My Way
My Spa My Way is a full-service day spa on the list of Black-owned spas. They serve the Shreveport-Bossier community. Come for the day by yourself or the family. They offer a lengthy menu of services, from skin treatments and bodywork to infrared saunas and eyelashes.

Make your tour of Black-owned spas in Louisiana a pampered vacation. Stay at the Remington Suite Hotel and Spa, located in an old historic building in downtown Shreveport.
9. Maryland: The Spa at The Ivy
Eddie and Sylvia Brown own one of the best black-owned spas and hotels in Maryland. You’ll love the Spa at The Ivy Hotel, located in Mt. Vernon — Baltimore’s historic neighborhood.
Stay in rooms or suites in a contemporary classic style and spend your days at The Spa at The Ivy. Choose from a selection of face and body treatments, that include an in-room massage and detox bath! They’ve thought of everything, even providing snacks and champagne!
10. Massachusetts: Dandelion Massage
If you’re looking for Black-owned spas in Boston, head to the lush Back Bay neighborhood. There you can check out Dandelion Massage. Specializing in lymphatic massage therapy, the experts at Dandelion Massage are sensitive to the needs you may have after cosmetic and weight loss surgery.

11. Michigan: Menzie Salon & Spa
Visit Menzie Salon & Spa in Warren, Michigan for more Black-owned spas. You can book a massage, skin treatment, nail treatment, and more. They specialize in haircutting and styling for both men and women.

While you’re in the Detroit area, stay at The Dearborn Inn. This colonial-style hotel is in a sprawling historic estate in southern Detroit.
12. Mississippi: Spa Innovations
One of the best Black-owned spas in Mississippi is Spa Innovations. Vicky Evans works with her clients not only to treat them but provide them with education concerning their skin.
As a certified esthetician, nail technician, and makeup artist, Evans offers a variety of cosmetic and therapeutic treatments. She specializes in skin treatments for women of color.

13. Missouri: Petra de Salon & Spa
Located in downtown Kansas City, Petra de Salon & Spa goes above and beyond. When it comes to Black-owned spas in Missouri, they offer the most services. From hair and skin to waxing, makeup, and more, you can book it at Petra. They even offer photography services for all occasions.

Also in downtown Kansas City is the 21c Museum Hotel. This themed boutique hotel has contemporary art installations to be found around every corner. There’s even an art museum inside the hotel!
14. New York: Cynergy Spa
Just a block away from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn is Cynergy Spa. They’ve been serving downtown Brooklyn for almost 20 years. Choose from a wide selection of services, including massages, wraps, facials, hand and foot treatments, and more.

15. North Carolina: The Cave Halotherapy & Spa
For unique Black-owned spas in North Carolina, The Cave is a must. You’ll find them in Hope Mills, a suburb of Fayetteville.
You can experience the benefits of salt at The Cave through their special halotherapy that releases salt into the air. You can also book a number of skin treatments, soaks, and massage experiences that use salt.

16. Ohio: Replenish: The Spa Co-Op
Head to Columbus, the home of Replenish. A woman-owned, family-run business, the owners believe that their work is intuitive and vital in healing.
You can book a series of traditional spa services like massages, skin treatments, or waxing. Or renew your body and spirit with services like energy work, sleep sessions, and yoga.

While touring Black-owned spas, check out the handsome Hotel LeVeque. Just 1 mile from the spa, you’ll get to enjoy a stay in Columbus’ educational Discovery District.
17. Pennsylvania: YOUtopia Spa
Awkaaba is one of the best woman-owned and Black-owned hotels throughout the United States, with properties also in Brooklyn, Washington DC, Philly, Cape May, and the Poconos. So it is no surprise they’re on this list of amazing spas!
Their Poconos property, the Mansion at Noble Lane Resort in Bethany, has an amazing 7-room spa called YOUtopia Spa. They offer 8 different types of massages, facials, and hand and foot treatments.
You can enjoy other wellness hotel amenities, like a yoga and Pilates studio, an Olympic-size pool, at the hotel and more.

18. Tennessee: Exhale Spa Escapes
If you’re looking for Black-owned spas in Tennessee that are also woman-owned, check out Exhale Spa Escapes. Located in Memphis, this collaborative company is run by Lasandra Barksdale, April Foxx, and Darlene Richardson.
Together they offer a unique take on massage therapy, yoga instruction, and holistic lifestyle coaching. Available only by appointment, call their location in Memphis.

Nestled into the heart of downtown, stay at the impressive Peabody Memphis. Enjoy a mix of modern luxury and southern charm close to the likes of the Orpheum Theater and the banks of the Mississippi River.
19. Texas: Essential Body Bar
Nurse Letrice Mason used her experience as a Nurse Practitioner to create the Essential Body Bar in downtown Houston. One of the best Black-owned spas in Texas, she offers an extensive menu of services. Have a one-on-one consultation with her or choose from a variety of spa treatments for both men and women.

While checking out the Essential Body Bar, stay at La Colombe d’Or Hotel, also in downtown Houston. Relax at this boutique hotel that has a modern classic style. You can take in Houston’s Theater District and Downtown Aquarium.
20. Virginia: Salamander Resort & Spa
Experience a rejuvenating Black-owned spa experience in Virginia, at the Salamander Resort & Spa. It’s located just outside of Middleburg, a suburb of greater Washington, DC. Founder Sheila Johnson created this award-winning resort in the heart of Virginia’s wine country.
Enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities like horseback riding and hiking. The spa features several therapeutic treatments, including steams, massages, wraps, facials, and a hair and nail salon.
21. Wisconsin: Kneaded Relief Day Spa
Nichol and Duke Harvey started Kneaded Relief Day Spa 30 years ago in Madison, Wisconsin. Today, you can still enjoy it as one of the best Black-owned spas in the state.
Visit the wellness center which includes personal training, relaxation rooms, and steam baths. The spa features massages, skin treatments, and a full nail salon, just to begin with!
Where to Stay in Madison near Kneaded Relief Day Spa
While you’re in the area, stay at the Graduate Madison. Take in views of Lake Mendota and downtown Madison. This fun boutique hotel that’s just blocks away from the University of Wisconsin has a quirky, yet tasteful feel that you’ll love.
